Howard Kaye Spears, age 63, of Beckley, West Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at his home following a short illness.

Howard was born on September 22, 1962 in Beckley, West Virginia, a son of the late Howard and Mona Spears. Howard was brought up Baptist and attended the congregation at Memorial Baptist Church in Beckley, WV. He enjoyed decades with the love of his life the late, Pat Baer of Beckley, WV.

Howard was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School class of 1980. Howard was a fantastic baseball player playing for the Silver Brand. He was an accomplished carpenter, mason, and contractor, traveling to Wilmington, NC where he started a contracting company with some of his friends. Together they built countless properties in the Wilmington NC area. He was an animal lover who would always take in the countless stray cats that would find comfort in his presence.

Those left behind to forever hold and cherish his memory are his sister Lesa Spears of Beckley, WV, niece Valerie Spears of Cornelius, NC, and aunt Loretta Blankenship, of Beckley, WV.

The family asks that if you feel led to please make a memorial donation to the Humane Society of Raleigh County in honor of Howard's devoted love to animals especially cats.

In accordance with Howard's wishes he will be cremated and taken back to Wilmington, NC and spread. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Melton Mortuary and Cremation Center who are honored to serve the Spears' family during this difficult time.
