Ile Dean Mills Obituary

January 8, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Dean Mills, age 79, of Cool Ridge, West Virginia, who passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family after a courageous battle with heart disease. He fought hard to overcome his failing heart, but in the end, his strength and determination gave way to the peace he so richly deserved.

Dean was born and raised in Egeria, West Virginia, and spent his life serving others - first through his service in the U.S. Army, and later through his work in the coal mines and as a small business owner. As an electrician in the mines, Dean spent many years working tirelessly to provide for his family. After retiring, he spent the next 30 years running Southern Wheels Auto, a small business that became a staple in his community. His dedication and hard work were a testament to his strong character and love for his family.

In addition to his career, Dean was a passionate and supportive father and grandfather. He was deeply involved in the lives of his six children- Michelle Sievers, Penny Mills, John Mills, Amy Mathes and her husband Jason, Sandy Mills, and Jennifer Mills. He coached them in their various sports and was a constant presence at high school games throughout the years, proudly cheering them on. Dean's commitment to his children and grandchildren, and to his community, was unwavering. He was also a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Kayla Jones, Gared Sievers, Joshua Stanton, Abigail Mills, Jaxon Mills, Thai Mathes, Bode Mathes, and Layla Mathes.

Dean shared a loving, steadfast bond with his wife, Sukunya "Tic" Mills, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage. His devotion to her was evident in everything he did, and their life together was one of love, laughter, and perseverance.

Dean was known for his incredible skill in fixing just about anything. Whether it was working around the house or helping a neighbor, his hands were always ready to help. He loved watching sports, often spending his time rooting for his favorite teams or enjoying a good game with his family and friends. Above all, Dean's true passion was his family, and he worked tirelessly to provide for them, ensuring that they had everything they needed and more.

He is also survived by his two devoted younger brothers, Arden Mills and Robert Mills, as well as his beloved older sister, Eileen Mills, and numerous nieces and nephews who will miss his warm heart and gentle guidance.

Dean was preceded in death by his eight siblings, whom he always remembered with love. Dean will be remembered for his strength, his generosity, his unwavering love for his family, and the countless lives he touched over the years.

A memorial service will be held on January 25, 2025, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Crow Baptist Church, 142 Crow Baptist Lane, Beaver, West Virginia, 25813, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm in the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be make to Wounded Warrior Project. Contributions can be made online at https://support.woundedwarriotproject.org, a cause that was close to Dean's heart. May he rest in peace, knowing he leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication that will live on in his family for generations to come.
