Mr. James Ellis Avis "Jimmy" passed from this life on December 10th, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 13th, 1953 he was the son of the late George and Erdine Avis.

In addition to his parents Jimmy is also greeted in Heaven by his children Kerri Leigh Hendrix, Mikal Thomas Avis, and Chelsea Lynn Avis.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 40 years Lisa Carol Avis, children Melissa "Missy" Copen(Rick), Jessica Rashelle Bearfield(David), grandchildren Nicole Kessler, Ashley Kessler, Cheyenne Hendrix, Mikal Hendrix, Savannah Hendrix, Makayla Avis, Kharma Jade, Madison Bearfield, Matthew Bearfield, numerous great-grandchildren, siblings Mary Ann Critchley and husband Cottonof Danese, WV, Melvin Junior Avis and wife Shirley of Danese, WV, twin brother Earnest Jackson Avis and wife Gail of Danese, WV, Meredith Ann Irwin and husband Arnold of Danese, WV, Georgia Ann Siffers and husband Dale of Meadow Bridge, WV, and many other nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends who will all miss Jimmy dearly.


Jimmy grew up in Danese, WV and began working at the age of eight to help provide for his family of 8. He loved his siblings although times were difficult. After growing up Jimmy married the love of his life Lisa Carol Lilly whom he was married to for almost 40 years. Jimmy worked for David Hill Concrete for 43 years, and then continued his career for Eastern Concrete until he retired. Jimmy taught many people the concrete trade. Himself, his son Mikal, and loyal friends Randy Fowler, and Randy's son Randall were known by many for their superior work of concrete finishing. Anytime a friend or neighbor needed a helping hand he was always there. Jimmy was known as one of the hardest working men ever, and was the love of Lisa's life. They loved to go hunting, fishing, working on things, and spending time with their grandchildren. He will be missed by many and he impacted the lives of thousands.

The family would like to invite all to share memories during Jimmy's celebration of life at Melton Mortuary on Friday December 13, 2024 from 5-7pm with the service following immediately afterward.
