James “Jim” C. Smith, 66 of Sophia, formerly of Shady Spring, died peacefully on April 14, 2021 at Bowers Hospice House after a short illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents James Arnold and Myrtle Mae Smith.

James is survived by his daughter Melissa (Kevin) Halstead of Bradley; son James (Amber) Smith of Meadow Bridge; brothers Mark (Debbie) Smith of Crab Orchard and Tim (April) Smith of MacArthur; sisters Becky (Kevin) Nierman of Shady Spring and Robin (Tim) Hall of Jumping Branch; granddaughter Kassie Halstead and fiancé Austin Brown of Bradley; great- granddaughter Kynleigh also of Bradley; aunts, uncles, many cousins, nieces and nephews and his best friends, Steve, Jamie and Lawrence.

James recently retired from the City of Beckley after working for 19 1/2 years. James was an avid NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt fan. He also enjoyed going to NASCAR races and attending car shows.

Due to Covid-19 there will be a private family memorial service at Melton Mortuary on Thursday. Social Distancing and face masks must be worn at all times.
