James Thomas Jarrell Obituary

On Thursday, June 13, 2024, James Thomas Jarrell III, aged 76 of New Port Richey, Florida, formerly of Beckley, West Virginia, passed away at Marliere Hospice House following a short illness, and has left those who love him behind to honor his memory as he entered into his Heavenly Home. Tom was the oldest of three children born to the late James Thomas and Rosebelle Tabor Jarrell, Jr. on August 16, 1947, in Beckley, West Virginia. Tom graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in the year 1965, where he excelled in baseball, basketball, running track, and was a member of the Chess Club. In Tom's senior year, he was voted Most Mischievous and Biggest Clown by his classmates. The quote by his senior photo reads "Happy from dawn 'til the set of the sun--Tom will always have his fun", and anyone who ever knew Tom, can attest to that being the truth. He always enjoyed life to the fullest.

While growing up and following graduation, Tom worked for his dad at JT Motors in Beckley for many years. He also worked at Leeds Department Store, the United States Postal Service, and while living in Los Angeles, California for 12 years, he worked briefly for Hollywood Sports Cars, and following that, with his uncle Jake and cousin David, working to set lighting for both television and film. Upon his return to Beckley, he went back to work and retired from the USPS in 2004. Tom was a Vietnam Veteran, serving in the Marine Corps from 1969-1973. Tom was also a lifetime member of Single Action Shooting Society.

In addition to his parents and grandparents, Tom was preceded in death by his uncle Jacob "Jake" Jarrell, his dear sister Debra "Debbie" Jarrell Williams, his sister in-law Judy Jarrell, and his precious fur baby Sissy, affectionately named for his sister Debbie who gifted her to him shortly before her death. Left to honor his memory are his loving wife Susan R. Jarrell, his loving daughter Kimberly Ann Jarrell Keziah (Larry), of Marshville, NC, his beloved granddaughter Kristin Ann Tucker (Chad), his adoring grandson Ethan Michael Keziah, grandsons Jason Keziah (Brooke), Andrew Keziah (Sara) and ten great grandchildren, Avery Grace, Addyson Abigail, Gavin Brent, Riley Brooke, Layla Brooke, Bailey Lane, Liam Jace, Easton Ellis, Rhett Keith, Amelia Corrine all of Monroe, NC, and his dear brother Phillip Jarrell, of Beckley. Other survivors include nephews Todd Cornett (Rachel), and Tab Jarrell, nieces Kerri Jarrell and Lauren Hallczuk, great nephews and nieces, Todd II, Tristan, Skylinn, Mason and Annie, great-great nephew and niece, Joseph and Layla, first cousins David, Glenda, Garry Dale, and Helen Kay, his adored fur baby Cleopatra, and many, many extended family members and friends.

There will be a visitation with family beginning at 1:00 pm with service following at 2:00 pm, with Rev. Dewey Lowe on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Melton Mortuary on Harper Road in Beckley, West Virginia. Entombment will be held privately. Honorary pall bearers, Todd Cornett, Tab Jarrell, Todd Cornett II, Tristan Cornett, Larry Keziah, and Ethan Keziah.
