James Allen Morton Sr. of Glen Jean WV passed away peacefully on October 30th, 2025 at the Bower's Hospice House in Beckley, WV. Born on July 24th 1955 at Lochgelly, WV, he was the son of the late Thurmond H. Morton, and Alberta J Morton.

In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by the mother of his children Pamela D. Willis, wife Lora A. Redden-Morton, son James A Morton Jr., brothers Ronald W. Morton, Robert L. Morton, and nephew Timothy Johnson.

Mr. Morton worked as a coal miner for many years with Peabody Coal Company. He was also an avid fisherman, and spent most days relaxing, and conversing with friends and neighbors at the Cold Spot in Glen Jean.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter Heather L Sheets(Thomas), and son Jeremy A Morton(Jenee); grandchildren Joshua E Morton, Carlos "Trey" E Adkins III, Jude A Morton, Gabriel "TJ" Sheets, and Abigail L Sheets; brothers and sisters, Alberta J Ramsey(J.P.) of Ohio, Thurmond H Morton(Brenda) of Lochgelly, WV, Sharon K. Johnson(Merle) of Oak Hill, WV, and Daniel Morton of Oak Hill, WV, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In accordance with James' wishes he will be cremated. A private celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Melton Mortuary and Cremation Center has the honor of serving the Morton family during this difficult time.
