James "Denver" Pettry
January 5, 1928 - April 24, 2020
James "Denver" Pettry, born January 5, 1928, peacefully went to be with the lord while at home in his sleep on April 24, 2020, at the age of 92. He had been surrounded by his loving family. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 68 years, Helen Pettry, his 5 children; Gail (Ed) Grick of McArthur WV, Debbie (Eddie) Stewart of Glen Daniel WV, Terry (Jimmy) Daniel of Bolt WV, Jimbo (Sandy)Pettry of Glen Daniel WV, and Sue (Kris) Plant of Stafford VA as well as 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Denver was a WW2 veteran, a coal miner for decades, an avid outdoorsman and a baseball coach for many years. He was a decorated archer with a passion for deer hunting. Denver was excellent at horseshoe and cornhole, and loved being with his family at cookouts or sitting on the porch drinking coffee. He had a strong faith, loved church and gospel hymns. Denver was known for his smile, hugs, chewing tobacco, jokes, sweet demeanor, and joyful spirit.
We send a special thank you to Hospice of Southern WV and their wonderful, caring staff.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His family finds peace in knowing he finally has a rejoicing reunion with his mother in heaven.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
