James Duke Williams

James Duke Williams, known lovingly to all as Jimmy, passed from this life on July 8, 2026, in Beckley, West Virginia, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on January 24, 1956, in Beckley, West Virginia, Jimmy was the beloved son of the late Duke and Kathryne Williams. He was also the brother of the late Rick Williams.
Jimmy was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, class of 1974. He was handy with his hands, quick with a joke, and gifted with a keen and intelligent mind. Those who knew him well understood that he could mend what was broken, explain what was complex, and lighten a room with his wit.
His working years were marked by dedication and pride. Jimmy retired from Manley Performance after 30 years, where his labor and loyalty were well known and appreciated. He was also the founder of Pro Power Performance with his son, Rick. Alongside his loyal friend and co-worker Ronnie Phillips together they built more than a business, for they built a bond of shared purpose, craftsmanship, and mutual respect. He was especially devoted to engine building, dirt track racing, and working on race cars throughout his life, and these passions were not casual interests, but part of the very fabric of who he was. He always attended his grandson Degan's games, and when he could not physically be there, he would always be tuned in listening. Degan was one of his greatest lights in life and was always immensely proud of his accomplishments.
In the fellowship of Christian faith, Jimmy found comfort and hope. Jimmy was a member of Beckley Presbyterian Church. He believed in the mercy of God, and now, by that same mercy, he has entered into rest. May he be remembered not in sorrow alone, but in gratitude for the years given and the love shared.
He is survived by his fiancé, Cindy Hungate; his son, Rick Williams, and his wife, Trish; his grandson, Degan Williams; his niece, Stacy Potwin, and her husband, Steve; his great niece, Ellie Potwin; and many dear friends who knew him as "Big Jim." The family will always remember Jimmy's favorite quote "You can't fix stupid."
The family would like to offer special thanks to the doctors and nursing staff at Hospice of Southern WV for all of their love, compassion, and care during Jimmy's battle.
