James Grady Stoots Jr. Obituary

I imagine that you’re in the heavens fishing the milky way, cracking jokes, laughing that laugh of yours, and catching up with loved ones that have also passed. You were always a devoted father, a man who loved his children just as much as many other men do. The kind of easygoing guy who had a lot of friends, and never knew a stranger. You were a good man, with good intentions and a good heart all the way to your untimely end. You made mistakes in life, as we all do, but to err is human and people make mistakes; it does not make your death any less profound.  James Grady Stoots Jr, better known as Jimmy, you are now at peace and your battle is over.

Jimmy passed this past Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at Raleigh General Hospital at the age of 52. Jimmy was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia on February 26, 1967 to the late James Stoots Sr of Eccles and the late Sharon, Tootie, Roberts of Beckley.

Jimmy grew up in Eccles and had many friends. Jimmy was an avid hunter and fisher and loved teaching and sharing his love of the outdoors with his boys. Another great quality he passed on to his children is his great sense of humor. He had this special ability to add the most unexpected lightning quick witty humor into any conversation; it was his own one of a kind comical genius. Certainly, there will be many loved ones that will miss this quality that could make a room swell with laughter; most of all, missing hearing the bellow of his own. Jimmy loved to participate in his boys sporting activities. He coached for the boys’ little league baseball for a time when his children were younger. He also enjoyed attending their wrestling matches, and football games. He would attend most of their school functions, he was a devoted and loving father. He was a loyal friend who would tell you the truth if you asked for it. He was stubborn and had a temper but also forgiving and understanding. He wasn’t perfect in any aspect. He had his faults as we all do, but he was a loving father, uncle, brother, son, boyfriend, friend, neighbor, and/or person; and he will always be dearly loved and sorely missed. Although we are all sad by Jimmy’s unexpected departure, he would most likely say to us, “Smile, it looks good on you.”

He is survived by his children Aaron Stoots of Beckley, and Cody Stoots of Arnett. His daughter in law Savannah Sarrett of Arnett. His grandchildren Cali Stoots of Arnett, Carson Richardson, and Connor Richardson of Glen Daniel. His brothers Ronnie Stoots of Fall River, MA, and Shane Stoots of Beckley. His niece and nephew Meghan Stoots, and Ryan Stoots of Fall River, MA. The mother of his children, Kasandra Len of Beckley. His former girlfriend and close friend Terri Pittman of Oak Hill.

Jimmy’s services will be held this Monday, February 10, 2020, at Melton’s Mortuary in Beckley at 3:00 PM. All of Jimmy’s friends and family are welcome to attend his services.
