Janet Faith (Deck) Lyons Obituary

Janet Faith Deck Lyons
"I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award me in that day - and not only unto me, but also to those who have longed for his appearing." (2 Timothy 4:7-8)

Janet Faith Deck Lyons, 88, of Beckley, was born on July 12, 1936, to Ezra Jefferson Deck and Thelma Gamble Deck. She graciously and courageously ended her 12-year battle with Alzheimer's disease on Saturday, January 18, at her home in Pleasant Hills, Beckley, surrounded by her loving children. "Her children shall rise up and call her blessed." (Proverbs 31:28)

Janet was born and raised in the Crab Orchard Church of the Brethren and was a member of Oak Grove Christian Church for over 60 years. She also enjoyed attending Grandview Christian Church and Lerona Church of Christ. She was in the first graduating class of Mount Tabor Christian School in 1954. She had been employed by Carolina supermarket and later on by Priddy's of Sophia for 34 years where she served as secretary and bookkeeper for Don and Larry Priddy.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, James D Lyons Sr, sister, Marion Tolbert, and brother, Arnold Deck. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Before their illnesses, Jim and Janet enjoyed traveling in their motor home and spending time at their camp at Indian Meadows in Lerona, WV. Janet loved riding around the campground with her grandchildren on the golf cart, teaching them to play croquet (which she never lost a game), and sitting around the campfire making s'mores and biscuits on a stick. She thoroughly enjoyed playing chicken foot. Her grandchildren will always have fond memories of her in the kitchen with her apron on cooking their favorite meals. She was a great cook! There were quite often "heated debates" over the last helping of her famous hashbrown casserole!

She is survived by her children, Drema Hayes of Newland, NC, Greg Pugh of Beckley, and Cherie Shuler of Scottsburg, IN; stepchildren, James (Sandie) Lyons, Steven Lyons, and Carol Hodson of Indiana and their families; grandchildren Kimber(Justin), Kayla, Kevin, Jordan, Kendra, and Leah; great grandchildren, Grayson and Carter; loving caretakers, Nancy Waugh, Karen Waddell, Sharon Holt, Debbi Miller, Nancy Pugh, and Lacey Lilly; sister-in-law, Lily Ailene Deck; nephews, Wayne (Gloria) Tolbert, Mark (Janet) Deck, Kevin (Debbie) Deck; nieces, Sharon Holt and Tracy Cross; very special cousin, Pat Osborne and her husband, Charles; special neighbors Kathy and Kayleigh Thompson, and special friends Jan Knepp and Cheryl Muovich.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 24, at the Oak Grove Christian Church from 5-7. The funeral will follow immediately at 7. Burial will take place on Saturday at 11 at Oak Grove cemetery.

The family would like to thank Princeton Health Care and Hospice of Southern WV for the awesome care shown to Janet and her family.

Donations of sympathy may be made to Hospice of Southern WV or your local Alzheimer's association in Janet's name.

She's riding on angels' wings, laughing at the smallest things. She's learning how to wear a crown. She's better now.
