Jeffrey Wayne Lacy, 64, of Daniels, WV passed away at his home on November 16, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Jeffrey was born July 2, 1961, in Columbus, Ohio, the son of the late Carol Sue Riffe Lacy and the late Charles Ray Lacy.
Jeffrey earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Career and Technical Education from West Virginia University Institute of Technology and his Master of Education in Education Leadership from Salem International University. Jeffrey spent his career as a teacher and then an administrator at the Academy of Careers and Technology with Raleigh County Schools, earning the NASSP Assistant Principal of the Year award in 2019. The lives he affected in his 27 years as an educator are innumerable, but he would tell the stories of how those lives affected him, every one important to him.
Jeffrey's favorite stories to tell, though, if you were lucky enough to sit with him, were about his family. He loved them with everything in him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his father just four months ago, and his best friend, Jimmy Kirk. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Lacy, of Daniels; his daughter, Heather James, of Beckley; his son, Brandon Lacy and his wife Missy, of Maple Fork; his absolute pride and joy, grandson, Konner Ray James, of Beckley; his sister, Lesa Williams, of Beckley; his brother, Mark Lacy; bonus children, Carissa Abitabilo, Eli Williams, and Zane Williams; and bonus grandchildren Isaac Abitabilo, Brentley Higginbotham, and Kenna Higginbotham; many nieces and nephews; and his best friend David Richmond.
After retirement, Jeffrey spent his time working in his yard and found a second passion. He became a Landscape Industry Certified Lawn Care Manager and worked part-time answering e-mails, giving lawn care advice for GCI Turf Services. He loved tinkering with and riding his Harley. Most of all, he loved cheering on Independence football and basketball, whatever his grandson was involved in.
According to Jeffrey's wishes, he will be cremated. A Celebration of Life with gathering of family and friends will be held on November 22, 2025 at the Beckley Moose Lodge from 5 to 7pm.The family has requested that everyone dress in jeans and casual clothing. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice of Southern WV, the organization that didn't fail him after so many others did. Specifically, the family would like to thank Hospice staff (Cameron, Kim, Carla, Jenna, Serena, Maggie, and Kari) and Dr. J. Lively of the CAMC Oak Hill ER for their care of him during this brief but difficult time.
