Joe Underwood, 45 of Stanaford passed away Sunday, May 10th, 2020 following a long illness. Born September 5th, 1974 in Beckley WV he was the son of the late Herbert Underwood and Marcia Atha.
Joe was like no other person I know. He was my baby brother no matter how old we were. I still remember the first time I saw him and got to hold him when he was born and all the sibling rivalry and fighting, we did growing up. None of it stopped us from loving each other. He always walked to the beat of his own drum, he did what he wanted and didn’t care who liked it or who didn’t. He was happiest when he was camping and fishing and took his children often. Maybe even when they didn’t want to go, lol. He was a bit of a pack rat and brought home things he found. Even when it was worthless it meant something to him. He saved everything and rarely threw anything away. He would help anyone even when they took advantage him. He gave many people a place to stay when they had nowhere to go. Joe loved his children but may have had a hard time showing them how much he loved them. He was very proud of them. He was the toughest man I knew, and most people knew not to mess with him because he could get a little crazy when you made him mad, a family trait. He will be missed by many. I know he is with his mom and dad and friends like Dean and Preston on the other side. I’m sure they are having a big party and enjoying the afterlife whatever it may be.
Joe is survived by three children; Ashley, McKenzie, and Parker, at home, one sister, Betty Taylor, and husband Bo of Clear Creek WV, several nieces, and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Wednesday at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Friends may call from 12 noon until the time of service on Wednesday.
