Joseph Preston Ramsey, Jr.

Joseph Preston Ramsey, Jr. was born on January 18th, 1937 in Rainelle, WV to his parents Joseph Preston Ramsey and Anne (Fink) Warner. He went to be with the Lord on April 21st, 2023 at the age of 86.
Mr. Ramsey is preceded in death by his parents; son Joey Ramsey; granddaughter Ashlie Easter; and his sister Cheryl Flanagan. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Betty C. (Meador) Ramsey; 12 children, Cary VanValkenburgh, Sue Easter, Bobbi (Eddie) Shrewsbury, Billy (Sandra) VanValkenburgh, Joy VanValkenburgh, Donna (Gary) Lilly, James (Mary Ann) McSwain, Tricillia Schmidt, John Powers, Jennifer Powers Massie, and Joseph S. (Maggie) Ramsey; 30 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; special cousin Mike (Karen)Fink, brother-in-law Bob Flanagan; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends who will miss him. He also leaves behind his best friend and fur baby, Duke.
Mr. Ramsey attended Woodrow Wilson High School and attended Beckley College studying accounting. He served with the US Air Force from 1954-1962. Mr. Ramsey later on studied to become a Master Plumber and retired as a supervisor at Patuxent Naval Base, MD. He returned to his home state of WV to work along side his long time friend Bill Mahaffey at Beckley Mechanical.
When Mr. Ramsey wasn't busy working, he enjoyed reading and especially watching westerns. He loved history and learning about the Civil War. He also had a passion for reminiscing about his younger years at the Coal Fields in Skelton where they would gather to play baseball as kids. Most importantly, he loved to spoil and spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Mr. Ramsey's life will be held on Thursday, April 27th, 2023 at the Melton Mortuary Chapel beginning at 1:00 pm with Pastor Delmas Cox officiating. Friends may pay their respects to the family from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. Interment will follow services at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.
