Our beloved mother and best friend, Judith K. Purdy passed away after a valiant fight with ALS on February 4, 2026. Judith was born October 10, 1950, in Beckley, WV to Harold and Delphia Thompson.
Judith graduated from Bramwell High School in 1968 and married the love of her life, Tommy L. Purdy, becoming a military wife. She trained through the VA to become a medical laboratory technician and plied her skill in many hospitals and clinics in the Beckley area, retiring from the Carl Larson Cancer Center. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Tabor Baptist church where she sang in the choir and served her Lord and Savior.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Delphia Thompson; her husband of 48 years, Tommy Purdy; brothers, Arch Thompson and Donald Thompson; and sisters, Regina Thompson Lawrence and Stella Thompson Lambert.
She is survived by her children: daughter Allyson Wilson and her husband Curtis; son William Purdy and his wife Casie; her nine grandchildren: Christopher Price, Britany Wilson, Heather Tanguy and her husband Patrick, Victoria Meyers and her husband Joshua, Riley Purdy and her partner Carlos Lopez, Howard Wilson, Andrew Purdy and his wife Destinie, Alexander Wilson and Connor Wilson; her great-granddaughter, Scarlett Rose Lopez; her brothers, Jeff Thompson and his wife Edna, Ronald Thompson and his wife Ann; her sister-in-law, Juanita Thompson; brothers-in-law, Joe Lambert, John Purdy and his partner Tammy Tiller; and numerous, much loved cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends may gather with the family on February 13, 2026 from 6-8pm at Melton Mortuary and Cremation Center in Beckley, WV.
A celebration of her life and accomplishment will be held at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 2 pm. Private burial will be held at the Mt. Tabor cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.
