Kathy Louise Doran, age 71, of Sophia, West Virginia, passed away Monday, March 9, 2026 after a long and courageous battle with Breast Cancer.

Kathy was born October 19, 1954 in Beckley, West Virginia, a daughter of Sherman and Jewell Deck.

Kathy graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1973 and began to build her family. She became a mom and raised 2 wonderful children. After her children were old enough, Kathy decided to enter the workforce. She tried out a couple jobs fields before beginning to work and build a career as a hospital housekeeper and cafeteria worker. Kathy worked for many years at both Raleigh General Hospital and Beckley ARH before retiring.

Kathy was an animal lover and helped take care of her neighborhood cats. This brought her purpose and enjoyment. Kathy had her own indoor fur baby she loved to spoil as well. Pebbles brought a lot of love and joy to Kathy and Pebbles loved spending her days laying next to her.

Kathy loved her family with everything she had. She made it her life's mission to make sure her children and grandchildren were loved and taken care of. They felt her love always and miss her dearly.

Kathy is preceded in death by her parents.

Those left to cherish Kathy's memory are her children, Valerie (Brian) Slone and Wesley (Renee) Harless; grandchildren, Matthew "Matt" Slone, Jacob Slone, and Cadence Harless; sweet fur baby, Pebbles; and other family and friends who will miss her dearly.

In accordance with Kathy's wishes, her family will have a private Celebration of Life at a later date. Melton Mortuary has the honor of taking care of her family.
