Katrina, age 70, died peacefully and without pain at Bower's Hospice House after a short battle with cancer. She is preceded in Death by her parents Hershel and Erna Henson, and several other close family members including cousin Linda Dew. Katrina was born October 22, 1955, in Charleston West Virginia.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Ashley Adkins, son Tyler Bennett (Chelsea) of Danese WV, and son Justin Bennett (Steph) of Carson City NV. Her sister Melissa Porter (Kevin) of Spring Dale, WV and their children Marrah Gadomski and Cole Porter, special cousins Debbie Neely and Mar and Theda Williams. Katrina also had seven grandchildren: Jackson, Madison, and Paxton Adkins, Luke, Sadie-Jo, Joe, and Colton Bennett.
Katrina graduated Meadow Bridge High School in June of 1973 and started her 41 year career in education in August 1973 as a kindergarten aide at Spring Dale School. She graduated from Concord College in December 1981 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. Her first teaching job was at Meadow Bridge Elementary starting in February of 1982. Her teaching career spanned three states and every grade from kindergarten to fifth grade. Katrina graduated from Marshall University with master's degree in education in 1990.
Katrina was a true animal lover, especially her cat Sassy. She was a die hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan, following them through all of adulthood. She enjoyed traveling and loved the beach.
The family would like to express special gratitude to her neighbors and friends, Fonda and Martha. Also, to the staff at Bower's Hospice House.
A celebration of Katrina's life will take place at a later date.
