Kermit Ray Morris Obituary

Kermit "Ray" Morris, age 75, of Naoma, West Virginia, has fallen asleep in death on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, West Virginia.

Ray was born December 24, 1949 in Pine Knob, West Virginia, a son of Carlos and Ruby Morris. He married the love of his life, Kathy Lynn Gunnoe on May 9, 1975 and spent 50 wonderful years together before his passing.

Ray enjoyed his highschool years at Marsh Fork High School. He was a valuable member of the football team and was well known around the school. Those that knew him fondly called him "Sugar Bear".

After graduation, Ray began a career as a Coal Miner. He worked at Peabody and A. T. Massey Coal Company for a total of 17 years before retiring.

Ray enjoyed fishing, playing the guitar, and spending time with his family. Ray loved his family more than anything. He spent many hours spoiling his grandchild. Ray shared his love of fishing with his grandaughter by taking her fishing. He enjoyed his time by the river while he fished. Ray loved to play the guitar for his family and created many lasting memories with them singing as he played.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Carlos and Ruby Morris; close mother-in-law, Emmer Gunnoe; brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Jo Peters; brother, Herman Lee Morris; and his sweet dog, Chico.

Ray is survived by his wife, Kathy Lynn Morris; daughter, Kelly Rae Morris; granddaughter, Emma Kay Crosby; close sister-in-law, Candy Morris; neices and nephews; and other family members.

A Private Memorial Service is being held by the family to honor Ray. Condolences and messages of sympathy can by left on the Melton Mortuary website.

The family offers a Special Thank You to the staff at Bowers Hospice House and to Patty Quarles, Debbie Peters Alderman, Donna Gunnoe, and Lisa Williams-Cook for their support of the family.
