Larry Wayne Hambrick Obituary

Larry Wayne Hambrick, 77, of Beaver, West Virginia, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on January 23rd, 2026.

Larry had a presence that filled a room without ever demanding attention - tall in stature, with a deep yet gentle voice. Brilliantly intelligent and endlessly curious, he was witty, charming, and deeply enjoyed storytelling and a clever joke. His wisdom, thoughtfulness, and calmness made him someone family and friends turned to for advice or simply a listening ear without judgment.

Her was a devoted family man, a natural problem solver, and someone who lived with integrity and quiet compassion. His humor was subtle but sharp, his generosity sincere, and his heart unmistakably big.

Larry, the son of Rudolf "Rudy" and Isobel Hambrick, was born on Good Friday, March 26, 1948, in Clifton Forge, Virginia. He grew up in Eagle Rock, Virginia, and graduated from James River High School in 1966.

Following high school, Larry enlisted in the United States Air Force, were aptitude evaluations revealed his exceptional strength in mathematics, logic, and analytical reasoning. He was trained as an Aircraft Inertial and Radar Navigation System Repairman, working on critical aircraft systems where accuracy and deep technical knowledge were essential. He served honorable from December 1969 to 1971.

This foundation led Larry to pursue and obtain a degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech in 1977. His exceptional understanding of electrical systems and ability to simplify complex concepts led him to teach introductory circuit analysis courses at Dabney Community College (now Mountain Gateway Community College).

Larry built a respected career spanning over 30 years as a field engineer with Westinghouse and Siemens. Colleagues proclaimed him a "master troubleshooter" and "top-teir switchgear engineer," relying on him not just for answers, but for reassurance. He had a rare ability to make difficult problems feel manageable.

Larry married Nancy Hambrick on May 26th, 1996 in Las Vegas, Nevada, beginning a partnership built on love, loyalty, and mutual respect. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who showed his love through presence, dependability, and unwavering support.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Hambrick; sister, Diane Sexton; children, Joshua Hambrick, Ian Hambrick, and Seth Hambrick; stepdaughter, Kathleen Edwards; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolf and Isobel Hambrick, and his siblings, Clayton and Melinda.

Larry loved working with his hands, fixing things, and understanding how the world worked. Helping others solve problems brought him genuine satisfaction. One of his greatest gifts was his calming presence - being around him simply felt grounding, and that comfort was cherished by all who knew him.

He treasured time with family, filling rooms with laughter through humorous stories and quick-witted responses. Music was another deep joy, particularly bluegrass and old country folk, which he often played on his guitar - content, thoughtful, and completely himself.

Larry's legacy of integrity, intellect, generosity, and genuineness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He was a thinker, helper, and above all, a family man whose presence made the world a better place. He will be greatly missed.

There will not be any services for Larry at this time. A Celebration of Larry's life will be held at a later date. Melton Mortuary will be taking care of the family and offers of condolences can be placed on the Melton Mortuary website.
