Larry Stokes, born February 13th, 1955, passed away on August 14th, 2023 at Bowers Hospice Home while holding the hands of his twin daughters Heather Stokes and Laura Jeffries.
Larry Stokes was from Coal Mountain, WV, and lived most of his life in Wyoming County, Raleigh County, and once, even ventured out to Detroit, Michigan where he spent two years in rehabilitation and recovery from injuries. He was born of Wanda and Joe Stokes and was raised beside Dinah Stokes Maynard, Lendell Stokes, and Eddie Stokes. While there was some dispute amongst the family that caused separation, it simply must be because "Hatfield" runs in our blood. Regardless of holding onto grudges, he loved his family and his siblings' children, Jared "Todd", Josh (his favorite), and Sabrina (the happiest). From Laura Jeffries and Justin Jeffries, he loved his granddaughters, Elizabeth and Audrey, who frequented visits during the last few months of his life. Other grandchildren he delighted in include Tiffany, Selena, and Anna, who are the twins loved nieces and children of Wendy Lester.
Larry worked at Pioneer Fuel as a coal miner after having earned his high school diploma. During the day hours, he would work at Pioneer Fuel and then during night hours, he worked at Stokes TV, Sales and Service. He was proud of his accomplishments in life, earning certificates he didn't think he would be able to and being the lead in operating heavy machinery "putting about a million a day on a belt for box cars headed up and down the tracks" and working 12-to-14-hour days and six days per week he dedicated his life to being a hard worker and the sole provider for our family until he was injured, with just a year short of earning his pension.
Larry married the love of his life, Betty Almond and spent his life dedicating an inordinate amount of energy to his marriage and dedicated his life to serving God, letting go of all transgressions, insisting on loving in action and deed. His wife, Betty Almond, preceded him in death on June 27th, 2023. While it may have been a Romeo and Juliet type of story with Larry and Betty, he was a good and loving daddy. Most of all, he wanted his obituary to say he loved his daughters very much. The last of his days, he did his final and most difficult work on earth and went to be with God, and Jesus, his savior. Well done, Daddio! Well done!
