Linda Leigh Bower Ramsey, age 84, of Beckley, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home with her loving caregiver, Marlene Stewart on Friday, August 29, 2025,
Linda was born August 04, 1941, in Mabscott, WV, daughter of the late Joe and Mary Bower. She married the love of her life, James Steele Ramsey Jr. on February 8, 1964. Linda was a 1959 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. She attended Marshall University for her undergraduate degree in education and received her master's degree from West Virginia University.
Linda retired as a teacher with the Raleigh County Board of Education, finishing her 30-year teaching career at Coal City Elementary.
She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, Beckley, where she helped with Vacation Bible School, volunteered in the front office and served faithfully on the church's bereavement committee. She also sang in the choir and was a member of the Deaconess board-when something was happening at church, Linda was there, no questions asked.
Linda was a longtime member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international professional society for women educators who serve the local community in many ways. She held the title of president from 1998 to 2000, and again in 2014 and 2015.
She was also involved with the Beckley Women's Club where she held the title of president for several years.
In addition to her parents, Linda was greeted in heaven by her husband Jim, and sister, Nancy Hall. She is survived by three daughters, Renay Pugh (Frank) of Greensboro, NC, Tanya Brackman (Marcus) of Washington, D.C., and Mary Barwick of Atlanta, GA; niece, Alicia Bodden (Scott); grandchildren, Meredith Clark (Reece), Franklin Pugh, Elijah Brackman, Jacob Brackman, Reese Barwick, and Lakin Barwick; great-nephew, and nieces, Graham Platz, Mary Catherine Platz, and Elizabeth Platz. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Melton Mortuary and Cremation Center who are honored to serve the family. Any memorial donations can be made to Wycliffe Bible Translators and First Baptist Church, Beckley. To celebrate the life of Linda, a small family gathering is planned to be held in Emerald Isle, NC.
