Lois Elaine (Foley) Bowling Obituary

Lois Foley Bowling
Of all the many blessings however great or small, to have had you for a sister dear Lois has been one of the greatest ones of all. It is with a heavy heart we the family of Lois Foley Bowling announces her passing.
A hard fought battle with cancer ended for our sweet sister at Bowers Hospice in the evening hours of last Wednesday, January 29th, 2025.
Lois Elaine was our "Big Sister," the first of three children born to William "Bill" and Louise Taylor Foley. She was born 76 years ago on Tuesday November 9, 1948, Beckley, West Virginia. Once again our family chain is broken in a little over four and half years. Our father William passed in 2020 and Mother in 2021. And now, nothing quite seems the same....BUT as God takes us one by one the chain will link again.
Lois had a wonderful childhood, parents that loved her and us her brother, William and sister, Linda. Camping was a favorite family adventure. Our father worked hard outside the home and Mother worked hard at home. They were nurturing parents who wanted to make sure we had our needs met materially and emotionally. Lois graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1966, and furthered her studies at Beckley College obtaining an Associate's degree. She began a career with the old Beckley Hospital in the days of the key punch operator moving on to Raleigh General Hospital in the IT department with the merge of the hospitals. A high work ethic, Lois had many years of service between the two hospitals.
As for everyone, life has its challenges. Lois would lose her husband Randall of 26 years to cancer in 2004, but there has good times as well. She enjoyed square dancing, knitting, crafting, especially making wreathes. Lois loved traveling. Myrtle Beach was a favorite destination. Lois first faced breast cancer and would participate in the Relay for life in her battle to recovery. As the years passed and the aging of our parents took its toil, Lois faithfully helped in their care, never a burden but an honor to be able to "pay back" for all our wonderful parents did for us. Our Dad was 95 our Mother was 92 when they passed. And now, Oh Glad Reunion.
Sadly cancer came back. It cannot erase the memories of this quiet and gentle spirit. There's something God has given us that will not be destroyed by the ravages of this disease, God placed a love for you sister deep down in the hearts of those who knew and loved you.
Left to cherish Lois' memory is her brother, William "Bill" Foley and his wife Phyllis, sister, Linda Treadway and her husband, Kenneth; she was the dear aunt of David Foley and wife, Charlene and Christina McCall and her husband, Jones Jr.; four great nieces and nephews survive as well.
Our sister was a quiet soul, but if you were her friend she was committed for life to a good friendship. To her friends, Yvonne Ballard, Mary White, Vanessa Covington and Annette Philips we thank you.
This coming Wednesday, February 5th, there will be a "Service of Remembrance" for Lois in the chapel of the Melton Mortuary at 1:00 pm. The family will be receiving friends at 12:00 pm. The Pastor Doc Adkins will be officiating. And then we will take our dear sister to Lester Community Cemetery to rest beside our parents. The family suggests donations of sympathy can be made to the American Cancer Society at https://www.cancer.org/donate
