Margie Etheline Trent

Margie “Etheline” Trent was born on November 13, 1928, in Odd, WV to Leffie and Bertha (Brammer) Fink. She went to be with the Lord on August 14, 2022, at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, WV at the age of 93 after suffering with Alzheimer’s the last years of her life. After graduating from Shady Spring High School in 1946, she attended and graduated from the Raleigh General Hospital School of Nursing. Her first job as an RN was at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. She worked at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital in the operating room. She then moved to Raleigh General Hospital to become the head nurse of the operating room, where she remained until she retired. Etheline was an active member of the Raleigh General Hospital Nursing Alumni and the AORN.
Etheline spent her life serving and taking care of others including caring for her mother-in-law Tudie Trent. Following her retirement, she enjoyed playing Bridge with her friends and traveling and shopping with her sisters. Her true passion in life was spending time with her family. She was a member of the Beckley Art Center and enjoyed painting. Etheline and Meredith were huge WVU Mountaineer fans and would decorate the family room, cook, and entertain family for the football games. She enjoyed her flowers and working in the yard alongside her husband. She loved animals including her horse Patches and her numerous cats.
Etheline was the last of her 8 siblings. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, to whom she was devoted, Meredith Overholt Trent ; brothers Bernard, Basil, Billy, and James Fink; sisters Madeline McGinnis, Gerline Lilly, Arline Mathis, and Gailine DeLuca. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter Gale Kirby and husband Jim Jr.; sons, Bruce and wife Becky, Meredith Lee and wife Trudy, and Kevin and wife Cindy; grandchildren Jim Kirby III and fiancé Jennifer; Greg and wife Tresa Kirby; Scott Kirby; Jordan Trent and wife Jackie; Jacqueline Jarrell and husband Brad; Shannon Bennett and husband Tyler; 12 great-grandchildren, Aurelia, Patrick, and Colin Kirby; Estella, Teddy, Ben, and Phillip Kirby; Claire Trent; Grayson, Jackson, and Addison Jarrell; Aaron Bennett, and many extended family and friends who will miss her.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, August 18, 2022, from 11 am – 1 pm at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Funeral service will begin at 1 pm with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park with family serving as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of Southern West Virginia in memory of Etheline would be greatly appreciated.
