Mary Katherine (Rogers) Harper-Stump Obituary
Mary Katherine (Rogers) Harper-Stump, age 79, of Sophia, West Virginia, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2026 at CAMC- Memorial Division in Charleston, West Virginia.
Mary was born March 7, 1947 in Mt Tabor, West Virginia, a daughter of Willie and Dorthy Ruth Rogers. She married the love of her life, Dennis Harper Jr before his deployment during the Vietnam War. Dennis was the love of her life. Tragically, he was killed during the war and never made it home to Mary.
Mary and Dennis had a daughter together, Juilette Harper. Mary navigated this world as a single mother and raised Juilette as best she could. She was a loving and firm mother who believed in the power of hard work and determination to make it through life.
Mary was an advocate for military benefits and spend many hours volunteering at the VFW, formerly The Eagles Club. She was life long member due to her advocacy and devotion.
Later in life, Mary met Lawrence Hern Sr and became engaged. They created many happy memories and devoted years to each other. However, Lawrence preceded her in death before they could be married.
Mary spent her free time attending Bingo, camping on the river, and watching family feud with her daughter. They loved guessing the answers and Mary would lovingly joke about each suit that Steve Harvey wore on the show.
Mary was a long time attendee of the Lester Church of God.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents; first love and husband, Dennis Harper Jr; fiance, Lawrence Hern Sr; siblings, William Jr, Fred, Josephine, Robert, Frank, Katie, John, Harry, Alice, Jimmy, Sharon, Bobby, Maryjane, and 3 infant sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, Juilette McKinney, grandchildren, Mike (Teri) McKinney Jr and Sheena (Justin) Fox; great-grandchildren, Braxton (Maddie) McKinney, Nolan Miller, Ryker Fox, Renley Fox, Oakleigh McKinney, Owen McKinney, and Jadein Fox; and other nieces, nephews, family, and friends who miss and love her dearly.
