Mary Cathleen Young

Mary Cathleen Lucas Young, age 81, of Daniels, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025 after a long battle with illness. 

She was born on February 20, 1944, to her parents, Jim and Rosetta "Rosie" Lucas. Mary was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who cherished her faith, family, and life. 

Mary was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Charles James Young; longtime companion, David Loveday; daughter, Betty Ann Young; son, Charles Ray Young; grand- daughter, Amanda Rose Young; and great-grandson, Brayden Isaac Runyon. 

She is survived by her brother, Billy (Martha) Lucas; special sister-in-law, Evelyn Lucas; her children, J.D. (Leesa) Young, Lily Ann (Keith) Smith, and Vanessa (George) J. Taylor; 16 loving grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; special nieces, Sandra Lucas-Stafford and Julie Lucas-Martin; multiple other nieces and nephews; and many other cousins and friends who loved her dearly. 

Mary was a proud grandmother to 16 loving grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 22 great-grandchildren. Mary loved God, life, and her family deeply. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering faith touched everyone who knew her. 

A Celebration of Life honoring Mary will be held at her daughter's home: 202 Oak Street, Daniels, WV, 25832. The family will receive visitors on Saturday, June 28th starting at 2:00 PM and ending at 5:00 PM. Everyone that attends is invited to bring a chair to hang out and share stories honoring Mary.
