Melanie Renee Hopkins

Melanie Renee Hopkins, 42, of Midway, passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2023. She was born on November 8th, 1980 to the late Terry Matthews and Frances Jones Bowers.

Melanie graduated from Independence High School in 1999, where she was a cheerleader, and she attended Mountain State University.
She was preceded in death by her father, Terry Matthews; paternal grandparents David and Maxine Matthews; maternal grandparents, Casey and Clara Jones; step-father Dwight Bowers; and her brother-in-law, Fred Acord.

She is survived by her mother Frances Bowers of Beckley; sister Michelle Matthews-Acord and her companion, Michael Powell of Rhodell; three children Dylan Lilly of Cool Ridge, Brooklyn Lytton of Princewich and John-Ryan Hopkins of Coal City; a bonus brother and sister, Walter Farmer, Jr. and Shawn Reed, both of Midway. She is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Melanie will be missed by many.

Melanie's life will be celebrated on Saturday, August 26th, 2023 at the Ury Freewill Baptist Church; 1710 Tams Highway beginning at 1:00 pm.
