Merle Elizabeth Biggs Neal went home to be with the lord and join her loving husband Francis Leon in heavenly glory on Friday, January 10, 2020. She passed away at a local hospital. Merle was born January 29, 1928 in Skelton, WV in her grandparents’ home. She was the daughter of the late Eugene R. Biggs and Oda Fitzpatrick Biggs.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leon, her brother Richard “Dickie” and two nephews, Richard and David Biggs. She is survived by two sons, Robert L. Neal and wife Connie of Beckley, John Mark Neal and wife Melanie of Poca, WV, and her daughter Patricia Neal Hughes and husband Lonnie W. Hughes of Winston- Salem, NC.
Grandchildren, Ryan(Wendy), Aaron, Brandon(Janelle), Daphne(Jerry), Jeremy (Jessie), Luke, Isaac, and Riley. Great Grandchildren, Cody, Weston and Joseph and Conner, Owen and Leo; she is also survived by two nephews, Mike and Roger Biggs and four nieces, Lisa Long, Lori Brown, Leah Behl & LeAnn Mazzeo.
Merle was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church serving as a deaconess and Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Beckley Gideon Camp Auxiliary, Raleigh/Fayette Genealogical Society and a former Miss Flying Eagle at Woodrow Wilson High School.
Services will be Saturday, January 18 at 12:30 PM with the Reverend Doc Adkins officiating at the First Baptist Church, Neville St, Beckley. Friends and family may call 2 hours prior to the service. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
