Michael John Kosco Obituary

Michael John Kosco
It is with a heavy heart but with much gratefulness for a long and good life the passing of Michael John Kosco is announced. Mike, a beloved parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Church went to see his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 15th, 2025. He was a young 96 years of age.

One of two sons, Mike was born on September 23, 1928, in Cezkov, Slovakia to Andrew and Elizabeth Vargo Kosco. His brother, Joseph has preceded him in death as well. Mike is survived by his brother's widow, Margaret and her children, Joseph, Theresa and Mary Kay whom he held in high regard as well as his late wife's family, the Cassinellis.

A lifelong resident of Beckley, Michael was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, he attended Beckley College. When the Korea War broke out, Mike joined the US Army and served three years active duty, eleven months of combat in Korea. He continued to serve his country with the US Army Reserves with 25 years of service, retiring in 1974 with the rank of Major. After the war, Mike began a career with Beckley Newspaper Corporation, retiring after 35 years of service as a computer room technician.

When we remember Mike Kosco, we remember his great love for his faith and his beloved wife, Mullens native, Elizabeth Cassinelli who preceded him in death. The marriage of Mike and Libby was a great love story.

A devoted member of St. Francis de Sales Church, he served as a reader at Mass and as an Extraordinary minister of the Eucharist and was a daily communicate for many years. He was a charter member of the Third Degree Knights of Columbus Fr. John Halpin Council, No. 5657 the 4th Degree Council No. 1593. Mike was a man of great humility.

This Thursday January 23, we give our beloved Mike back to God. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Francis de Sales Church at 12 noon. The Rite of Committal will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery at Sunset Memorial Park where Mike will be laid to rest by his beloved Libby. His dear friends in the Knights of Columbus will be his pallbearers. Mike will lay in repose in St. Francis de Sales at 11:00 am on Thursday morning.
