Mildred Jean Ransom

Mildred Jean Murdock Ransom, 89, of Orange, VA and formerly of Daniels, WV died on July 1, 2021.

Mrs. Ransom and her husband Frank spent nearly 40 years running Ransom’s Market in Beaver, West Virginia. 

Born on May 18, 1932, she was the daughter of the late George McKinley and Clara Augusta Keaton Loar Murdock.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husband Loyd Franklin Ransom Sr. and infant sons, David Charles and Danny Lee Ransom.  Mrs. Ransom was the last surviving member of her immediate family which included six brothers and two sisters; Charles Loar, James “Percy” Loar, George Murdock Jr., Quincy “Billy” Murdock, Joseph Murdock, Jack Murdock, Margaret Loar Richardson Dalton and Eunice Murdock Meador.

Left to cherish her memory include her children Loyd Franklin Ransom Jr. and wife Kimberly Lilly Ransom of Cool Ridge, WV, Pamela Ransom Hedrick and husband George Hedrick of Locust Grove, VA, and Christina Ransom Davis and husband Dave Davis of Ladson, SC; six grandchildren Clint Ransom and wife Katlin Sharp of Daniels, WV, Renee Hedrick Poulos and husband Kent Poulos of Richmond, VA, Tara Hedrick Pascale and husband Gustavo Pascale of Woodbridge, VA, Alyssa Davis Johnson of Ladson, SC, Vanessa Davis Marsh and husband Jimmy Marsh of Carlisle, PA, Amanda Davis Petersen and husband Mark Petersen of Charleston, SC; twelve great-grandchildren Cayden Duncan, Zayne, Raylynn and Esau Ransom, Karina and Laney Poulos, Ella Pascale, Jacob, Rachel and Lydia Johnson, Gabriel Marsh, and Isabella Petersen.

Funeral services will be Friday, July 9, 2021 at 1:00 pm at the Melton Mortuary Chapel.  Calling will be two hours prior from 11 am – 1 pm.  Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.  Words of comfort may be offered to the family by visiting www.meltonmortuary.com  Melton Mortuary and Cremation Center have been entrusted with burial arrangements.
