Nancy “Faye” Smith, age 73 passed away on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 surrounded by her loving family in Beckley West Virginia.
Faye was born on September 15, 1947 in Terry, WV, daughter of the late Ray and Lizzie Biggs. She grew up in Piney View with her three siblings, close cousins and many friends.
At age 17, she married the late John William Smith, also of Piney View after he came home from serving four years in the Marines. Faye gave birth to their son Johnny and later they moved to Cleveland, OH where she completed their family, having two daughters Lizzie and Becky. In 1984 they moved to Davenport, IA.
Faye was a devoted wife and mother and full-time homemaker until her kids were older. Faye then worked many different part time jobs, in a coffee shop, a jewelry shop stand at the mall, and even as a delivery driver. She was an avid believer in Jesus Christ and attended church making many friends and memories. She loved to sing, do crafts, and go shopping. She was the most caring and giving woman. If Faye saw something she knew someone would like, she bought it for them.
In 2010 after spending a few years living in Romeoville, Illinois, they moved back to Piney View, WV to spend their golden years with childhood friends and family.
Faye was a member of Terry Christian Church where everyone loved to hear her sing her praises to God. She also enjoyed spending time at the Senior Center, Commission on Aging where she made many more friends and loved to play bingo.
Faye is survived by her three children John (Brenda) Smith of Carlisle, IA, Liz (Willie) Ziegler of Port Byron, IL, and Becky Lemaster of Beckley, WV; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers Billy (Marti) Biggs of The Villages, FL, Bobby (Linda) Biggs of Piney View, WV and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Faye is preceded in death by her husband John “Willie” Smith; parents Ray and Lizzie Biggs, and her sister Brenda O’Neal.
Faye will be cremated and laid to rest on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at 1 PM at the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veteran's Cemetery in Dunbar, WV. Anyone is welcome to join her family in remembering and celebrating Faye’s life. A special thank you to Faye‘s granddaughter Brooklyn Smith and Faye‘s buddy Josh Lester of Beckley, WV for opening their home up and taking the most absolute finest care of Faye!
