Norma Jean Acord, age 90, of Fairdale, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 19, 2026 after a long battle with illness surrounded by her loved ones.
Norma was born February 15, 1936 in Glen Fork, West Virginia, a daughter of French and Clara Belle Daniel. On March 26th, 1954 Norma Jean married the love of her life French "Bud" Acord. They celebrated 71 wonderful years of marriage before his passing last October. Norma missed Bud dearly and their family takes comfort that they have been reunited together in Heaven.
Norma and Bud made a complimentary pair. Their interests lined up to complete one another. Bud was known for his wonderful yearly vegetable garden and Norma was so excited for the harvest of those vegetables. She loved to can them so they could enjoy them all year round.
Norma and Bud built a wonderful life and family. Together, they had 4 beautiful children, Wayne, Lonnie, Danny "Dee", and Lisa. Norma was a mother and a homemaker by making their house a home but those were not the only titles she had. Norma worked as a School Cook and made sure that the students had delicious meals every day. She enjoyed ensuring those children had at least one delicious meal they could look forward to.
Norma was known in the family for being a wonderful cook. Her family fondly remembers her delicious rolls and her perfect mashed potatoes that never had any lumps. Norma held many special Sunday family dinners. She was thankful for the many hours they spent together catching up and bonding during these special meals.
Norma enjoyed her card games and bingo nights. She loved to play games as often as she could; bringing family to enjoy in the games as well.
Norma's mother and siblings passed before her making Norma the last surviving member of her family. She is also preceded by her husband; children; Wayne's first wife, Linda; Lonnie's wife, Genia; and two grandchildren, Sara Jean and Jacob Wayne.
In addition to her daughters-in-laws, Tossy Acord (Wayne's wife) and Kelli Acord (Danny's wife) Norma leaves a legacy of her grandchildren, Jami Birchfield, Michell Allen, Randi Kuhn, Trena Canady, Leah Allen, Lonnie Acord, Kourtney Daniel, Danny Acord II, Norma Jean Acord, Zachary Acord, Matthew Acord, Jessica Alderman, Brittany Smith and John Acord; Linda Sears, special friend and caregiver. Norma and French were blessed with 23 great grandchildren.
