Norman Ray Davis Obituary

Norman Ray Davis, age 91, of Beckley, West Virginia, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2026 after a long battle with illness.

Norman was born November 24, 1934 in West Virginia, a son of Elmer Ray and Mary Belle Davis. He married the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth Clay on November 26, 1965 and built a beautiful life and family together before her passing in 2015. They spent a wonderful and happy 49 years together.

Norman attended Woodrow Wilson High School before joining the Army, serving his country for 4 years. After his time in the military, Norman came back to the states and began building a life and family. Norman worked several jobs in construction, delivery, and manufacturing in Charleston and Beckley before starting his career as a Machinist and Quality Control Supervisor at Fairchild International Inc. He worked 25 years with Fairchild before their closing. Norman went on to work for and retire from Cline Distributing in Mabscott.

Norman was a devoted attendee of the Calloway Heights Baptist Church. He attended many years before he became sick and could not attend anymore.

Norman loved to spend time with his friends socializing at the Beckley Moose Lodge. He was a life-time member, spending 70 years there. Norman began his membership in 1956 and enjoyed every bit of it. He was celebrated as the "Valued Veteran of the Year" for 2026.

Norman was a devoted family man. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and son. Norman took an interest in developing his son's interest in sports, he was a coach for his son's baseball teams and played on the Fairchild softball team as well.

Norman was well known for his beautiful yearly vegetable garden. He grew vegetables of all varieties with tomatoes being his (and everyone else's) favorite. Norman always gave vegetables to everyone he knew so they could enjoy them as well.

Norman has been preceded in death by his wife, Mary Davis; parents, Elmer and Mary B. Davis; and siblings, Brenda Goddard, Jerry "Skipper" Davis, Ernie "Buck" Davis, and James "Jim" Davis.

Norman is survived by his son, Kevin (Lisa) Ray Davis; brother, Kenneth "Kenny" (Linda) Davis; grandchildren, Heath Davis and Seth Davis; and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will miss him dearly.

A Funeral Service honoring Norman will be held on Tuesday, February 10th at 1 pm at Melton Mortuary. The family will receive visitors beginning 1 hour prior to the service.
