Peggy Sue Porterfield, age 74, of Beckley, West Virginia, passed away after a relapse in her battle with Cancer on Friday, March 13, 2026 surrounded by her family.

Peggy was born September 12, 1951 in Beckley, West Virginia, daughter of William "Bill" and Nona Cox.

Peggy met the love of her life, Benjamin "Benny" Theodore Porterfield II, and they were married December 24th, 1969. Peggy and Benny built a beautiful life and family together. They had two children, Benjamin "Ted" Theodore Porterfield III and Cora Sue Porterfield, that they poured all their love into raising. Peggy always made sure that their house felt like home. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother.

Peggy and Benny were blessed with 52 years of marriage before Benny passed on to Heaven. Today Peggy and Benny are reunited again and that thought brings their family comfort.

Peggy loved to craft and enjoyed her gardening. Peggy was always working on a new blanket or cross stitching one of her pretty designs on pillowcases. She left behind many art projects for her family to enjoy. Peggy could always be found in her garden. She grew all kinds of flowers and vegetables. Peggy's favorite was her beautiful Amaryllis flowers. Those flowers have become her legacy and her daughter and granddaughter are ensuring that legacy lives on.

Peggy is preceded in death by her husband and other half, Benny Porterfield; parents, Bill and Nona Cox; and sister, Pat Southerland.

Those left to cherish Peggy's memory are her children, Ted (Julie) Porterfield and Cora (Phillip) Stover; grandchildren, Cory Porterfield, Daniel Porterfield, Aurelia Porterfield, and Miranda Stover; siblings, William Sydenstricker, George Sydenstricker, Nancy Cox, and Ronnie Cox; and many other family and friends who miss and love her.

A Celebration of Peggy's Life will be held on Friday, March 20th at Melton Mortuary beginning at 6 pm. There will not be a formal service but loved ones are invited to gather and share their love and memories. Melton Mortuary has the honor of serving the family.
