Ramona Ann Sarrett Rupe went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 29th, 2022, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital after a short illness.
Born on November 28th, 1952, at Beckley Hospital, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Virginia Manning Sarrett.
Ramona spent her childhood at Arnett, where she graduated from Marsh Fork High School. She was a graduate of Beckley College and Concord College, and obtained a Master’s degree from West Virginia University. Ramona taught school in Raleigh County for 32 years. She taught at Mr. View Elementary, Maxwell Hill Elementary and finished her career, teaching at Sophia Soak Creek Elementary. Ramona was dearly loved by all of her students and they loved her. She has stayed in touch with many of them.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Larry Rupe; daughter, Kristen Dickens (Brian) and granddaughter, Brooke Lickliter; step daughters, Christina Rupe and Sarah Zinchiak. A step son, Johnathan Rupe has preceded her in death. There are step grandchildren, Christopher Rupe, Anna Rose and Johnathan Thomas. Ramona is also survived by her best friend, “Cousin” Nancy Sauls; brother, Roger Sarrett (Betty); sister, Rita Harper (Jim); nephews, Jerry Sarrett, Kevin Sarrett, Eric Sarrett and Jason Harper; nieces, Lynn Subbaraya, Kelli Moors and Jaime Harper; her special companion, her dog, Dixie.
The funeral will be Friday, August 5th at 1:00 pm at Melton Mortuary. Pastor Paul Zutaut will be officiating. Ramona will be entombed in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family is receiving friends at 11:00 am on Friday. Pallbearers will be Jerry, Kevin and Eric Sarrett, Billy Sauls, Jackson Harper, Lewis Harvey and Dee Subbaraya.
