Robin Nicole Massey Obituary
Robin Nicole Massey, of Lester West Virginia, passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 7, 2024. Born on June 29, 1985, in Rock Hill, South Carolina, she was the firstborn daughter of Tammy Shrewsbury McKinney and Jimmy Dale Massey.
Robin was a passionate equine enthusiast, earning numerous champion and reserve awards in barrel racing and pole bending with the Raleigh County Horseman's Association. She also achieved several top 5 awards and a 3D Championship. Her talent led her to multiple invitations to world championships in barrel racing. Robin's love for animals extended beyond horses; she was deeply involved with the American Dog Breeders Association (ADBA), winning multiple blue ribbons at conformation shows with her beloved American Pit Bull Terriers and being featured in the ADBA Gazette. She was an ardent animal activist, giving homes to rabbits, horses, cows, birds, and even a raccoon.
Robin worked in retail management at Kroger. She cherished camping and annual visits to her favorite beach, Folly Beach, with her best friend, Lisa Pharo.
Robin spent her childhood between Rock Hill, South Carolina, and southern West Virginia, eventually settling in Raleigh County, WV. She graduated from Wyoming East High School in New Richmond, WV, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and ranked in the top 20 of her class.
Robin is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Isaiah and Rosemary Shrewsbury of Garwood, WV, and her paternal grandmother, Viller Mae Massey (James Bowen) of Denton, NC. She is survived by her father, Jimmy Dale Massey (stepmother Susan Massey) of Rock Hill, South Carolina; her mother, Tammy Jewell Shrewsbury McKinney (stepfather Borcus Raymond McKinney Jr.) of Gary, WV; her sister, Jessica Mae Massey of Lake Wylie, South Carolina; step siblings, Brianna Young (Will Young), Micky Deal, and niece Carleigh Grace Deal of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Isabella McKinney, Savanna McKinney Stinson (Daylon Stinson, nephew Dallas Stinson), Arianna McKinney of Princeton, WV, and Borcus Raymond McKinney III of Beckley, WV. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and a very special beloved friend, Gregory Rose of Bolt, WV.
Robin's life was one of service and joy. She dedicated herself to the simple pleasures that make life rich and fulfilling. Her laughter was infectious, her counsel wise, and her generosity boundless. Robin was known for her exceptional cheesecake and fried chicken, and she loved cooking for others. She enjoyed dancing, attending concerts, and sharing good times with friends over cold beer.
As we say goodbye to Robin, we also celebrate the indelible mark she left on our hearts. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from the community.
A service to commemorate Robin's life will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024 with Pastor Sandy Bryant officiating. The family will accept friends beginning at 11:00 AM, with the service starting at 1:00 PM, at Melton Mortuary, Beckley, WV.
