Ronald "Ronnie" O'Dell Obituary

Our much loved father, husband, brother and uncle, Ronald David O’Dell (Ronnie), 80, died after a long illness January 4, 2021 at Bowers Hospice House. He was born May 6, 1940 in Tolleytown, WV, the son of Albert Ronald O’Dell and Phyllis Iona O’Dell.
Ronnie graduated from Trap Hill High School in 1958. Following graduation, he served with the U.S. Army at Fort Bragg, NC, where he won awards for his shooting ability. He also served in Korea, where he would hear the lonesome sound of Taps and dream of the woods of West Virginia. After serving his country, he married the love of his life, Sue Ellen Shumate in 1963. He went to work for the phone company, where he worked for 30 years. Never one to be idle, after retirement he started his own business, Ron’s Phone Service. He was a faithful member of Coal Marsh Missionary Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school for many years, encouraging the youth in the Word.
Ronnie was a kind, humble and God honoring man, and loved the simple things in life, such as the tranquility of fishing on the lake, hunting in the woods among the autumn leaves, seeing the beauty of the world through his camera, or visiting with his family and friends, where he could always be counted on to make everyone laugh.
He was survived by his devoted wife, Sue Ellen, his children, daughter Melinda Ray, wife of Glen, son David O’Dell, husband of Michelle, and daughter Susan Jessup, wife of Chuck. He was also survived by his beloved sister, Mary Worley of Bolt, and his 6 grandchildren, Nicholas Maas, Abigail Jessup, Tabitha Jessup, Maya O’Dell and Julia O’Dell.
Services were held at Melton’s Mortuary on Friday, January 8th for the family, with the burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens following.
We will always miss you, Dad, but can be at peace knowing you are perfectly in Heaven. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. John 10:27-28.
