Sarah Elizabeth (Johnson) Walker

Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth (Johnson) Walker, 92, of Beckley, WV died Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at her residence after a long illness. She was born September 12, 1928 in Huntington, WV, a daughter of Benjamin F. Johnson and Kathleen Ward Johnson Kilgore.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband and love of her life, A. Keith Walker.  Together, Sarah and Keith enjoyed more than 72 years of marriage and worked side by side as the owners and operators of Walker’s Pic Pac grocery stores in Mullens, WV for more than 30 years. Sarah was a member of Crab Orchard Baptist Church where she was active in the Joy Sunday School Class and the Keenagers group.  She held prior memberships in the First Baptist Church and Memorial Baptist Church, both in Beckley, WV. Because of her heart for children, she was extremely active for more than 30 years as a key volunteer in charge of infants and toddlers in her first two churches. Sarah was also a charter member of the Beckley area Auxiliary of The Gideons International and held various offices throughout her more than 60 years of membership. 

Mrs. Walker is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Anna Marie Johnson; three brothers, Benjamin F. Johnson, Jr., Michael Franklin Johnson, and William J. Johnson. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband, A. Keith Walker; daughters, Teresa (Gregg) Epperley of Beckley, WV and Linda (Toney) Fitzgerald of Coppell, TX; sons, Eddie Walker of Mullens, WV and Mike (Debbie) Walker of Tower Lakes, IL; grandsons, Bryant Walker, Michael Epperley, Drew Epperley, Nik Walker, Jacob Fitzgerald and Jonathan Fitzgerald; granddaughters, Audrey Stanton-Smith, Sarah Walker Seifert, Morgan Fitzgerald Clardy, and Kari Walker Sizemore; great-grandchildren, Jon David Schwitzerlette, Graydon Smith, and Wyatt Seifert; many special nieces, nephews and a host of friends. The family would also like to recognize and thank several very special caregivers:  Jennifer, Becky, Stephanie, Amanda, Milda, Madi, Kelsey, and Rhonda. Additionally, the family thanks the members of the Joy Sunday School Class for their prayers, cards of support and for the many meals provided during Sarah’s illness.

Due to Covid-19, a private family visitation and funeral service will be held on Monday, September 28, 2020 beginning at 12:00 Noon at Melton Mortuary and Cremation Center with Nik Walker officiating.  Entombment will follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Beckley.  For those who wish to attend the service virtually, you may go to https://www.facebook.com/MeltonMortuaryInc
