Steve Davis

On Saturday, April 22nd, 2023, our most cherished brother, Steve Davis passed away in Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown following a brief illness.

The 5th of ten children, Steve Wilson Davis was born on December 12th, 1956, at the family home place in Fairdale.  He was the son of the late Owen Earl and Vercie Rollins Davis.  In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his brothers, Bobby, Roy, and Ezra; a sister-in-law, Lena Davis, brother-in-law, Gary Nelson; and a nephew, Estil Davis.

A lifelong resident of Fairdale, Steve was a paper carrier for the Register Herald for many years.  In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing and the family would jokingly say, “Steve was the unofficial mayor of Fairdale.”

He leaves to cherish his memory his surviving siblings, Estil Davis, Jimmy Davis, Gene and Diana Davis, Mary Nelson, Dorsey Davis, and Dawson Davis.   A sister-in-law, Loretta Davis and a large extended family of nieces and nephews and a host of friends survive as well.

The funeral will be Friday afternoon, April 28th at 3:00 pm in the Fairdale Freewill Baptist Church.  The Rev. Dean Adams and Bobby Carter will be officiating.  Steve will return to his home place for burial in the Davis Family Cemetery.  The family is receiving friends at 2:00pm. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Before our dear Mother passed, she gave us instructions, “Take care of each other.”  We are doing our best to stick together and do what Mother asked.   Flowers are welcome, but if you so desire, a gift to the surviving brothers who live at the family home place will be so appreciated. Any monetary gifts can be sent to Melton Mortuary and will be forwarded on to the family.   God Bless our dear Steve, until we meet again….May he rest in peace.
