Steve Woodrow Smith, age 82, of Shady Spring, West Virginia, returned home to be reunited with his late son Jeff Smith and late wife, Freda Smith on January 25, 2024 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, West Virginia.
Steve was born March 04, 1941 in Shady Spring, West Virginia, a son of William and Maggie Smith. Steve was raised in Shady Spring until he joined the army in 1959. After being honorarily discharged from the military, he married the love of his life, Freda Rainelle Bolen on May 4th in 1963.
Steve worked on the docks of the Great Lakes while living in Elgin Illinois-he later heard a calling from god to become the pastor of a church in his community. After years of leading the church he moved his growing family back to his wild and wonderful home.
He is survived by 4 children; Clarissa Smith of Shady Spring, WV, Jason Smith(Melinda)of Daniels, WV, David Smith of Shady Spring WV and Rick Hatfield(Teresa) of Belvedere, IL.
Steve is survived by his 9 grandchildren, Kylie Elmore(Zack) of Salisbury, NC, Courtney Cline of Parkersburg, WV, Silas Sizemore of Beckley, WV, Katie Cline of Parkersburg, WV, Summer Smith of Daniels, WV, Kindal Smith of Flat Top, WV, Corey, Keith and Haley Hatfield of Belvedere, IL.
Also survived by 3 Great Grandchildren Lennox Elmore, Kaia Elmore, and Dakota Hatfield. Steve will be missed by several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service with full military honors will take place for Mr. Smith on Tuesday January 30th 2024 in the Melton Mortuary Chapel at 2:00 PM with Pastor Rock Hudson officiating. The family will accept friends two hours prior beginning at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow in the Hannah Lilly Cemetery in Odd, WV. Arrangements have been entrusted to Melton Mortuary and Cremation Center who are honored to serve the family.
