Thomas Edward Covey Sr. "Eddie", age 84, of Saxon, West Virginia passed away Thursday afternoon, September 29th, 2022 at Bower's Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.
Eddie was born February 18th, 1938, in the family farmhouse in Saxon, WV, a son of Thomas Holt and Vandora Covey (Smith). He lived on the family farm until his death. He married the love of his life, Ramona (Brown) Covey on January 4th, 1964, who survives him. Also surviving is his daughter Tina Bishop and husband Bill of Crab Orchard, son Thomas Edward Jr. "Tom" and wife Tammy of Saxon, granddaughter Rachel Kidd (Bishop) and husband Jesse of Chicago, IL, grandson Thomas "Mark" Covey of Saxon. He is also survived by Brother-In-Law, Charles Brown and Sister-In-Laws, Martha Brown and Juanita Goldsberry, in addition to several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his beloved cat, Rocket, who was a constant companion in his last years. Eddie was preceded in death by his brothers, Halvin Covey and Weir Covey.
After graduation from Trap Hill High School, Eddie served in the United States Army and also In the Army National Guard. Following his service, he started a career in coal mining which lasted 30 years. Most of his career was spent at Harris #1 in Bald Knob, WV. In his spare time, he could be found outdoors. Eddie was an avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing, camping, golfing and gardening. He also cherished the company of his family and friends. Eddie never met a stranger and always had time for loved ones.
Funeral services will be Friday, October 7th at Melton Mortuary Chapel with his nephews Pastors Larry and Bruce Brown officiating. A burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00am to 1:00pm, at which time the funeral service will start.
Pallbearers will be Tom Covey, Mark Covey, Bill Bishop, Jesse Kidd, Larry Brown and Bruce Brown.
