Tom Foti, 89, of Beckley, passed away at home surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Bartley, West Virginia, son of Anthony and Lola Foti. In addition to his parents, he was preceded death by a sister, Katherine Foti.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lillian Jenkins Foti; daughter, Toni Marie Ferry of Harrisonburg, Virginia; granddaughters, Meredith Ferry, Emily and Danielle Ferry of Huntington; a brother, Victor Foti of Roanoke, Virginia; and special friends, Paul and Fran Griffith of Saratoga, California.
Tom was a 1948 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. He holds degrees from Concord University and Marshall University. Post graduate work was done at Kent State University and Ohio University.
He taught high school for 10 years and spent the remainder of his career in vocational-technical education in West Virginia and Ohio. He served as Director of Vocational-Technical Education in Fayette County; WV State Supervisor for Facilities, Equipment, and Planning; and retired as Vice President of Technical Programs at Shawnee State University in Ohio. He assisted in the initiation and development of First Community College in southern Ohio, a $25 Million campus with 3,000 students.
Tom served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.
He served at one time as president of the New River Habitat for Humanity and Woodcrest Foundation. He is a member of the United Methodist Temple.
Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, February 11th at Melton Mortuary. There will be a walk through visitation from 12 to 1 pm. A private burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park.
