Victoria Cheryl Waller (née Combs) 70 of Saxon, WV, died October 6th, 2019 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV.
Born December 29th, 1948, Vicky embodied compassion. From her union with Jerry Waller she had a son and daughter whom she loved beyond measure. In turn, she instilled in them a love of nature, teaching them about monarch butterflies, lightning bugs, and kindness.
Vicky’s compassion cannot be overstated. She loathed the suffering of others, regardless of whether or not they had a fur coat. She dedicated a large part of her life to aiding those in need, first as an EMT, and then as a paramedic in several counties across southern West Virginia.
Thus it is with some irony that the last eighteen years of her life were tainted with the suffering that came from two bouts of leukemia and chemo in the mid 2000s: a gradual, insidious disintegration of her bones. Her heart remained physically strong, however, and her mettle in the battle against cancer earns her a place in the halls of Valhalla.
Vicky is survived by her son, Jerry L. Waller II (Mira) of Chapel Hill, NC; her daughter Erica Otey (John Jones) of Bluefield, VA. Her three grandchildren, Mitchell, Raylyn, and Esmée. A brother, Terry S. Combs (Pam) of Arnett, WV; and a sister, Vanessa B. Clack (Cal) of Carmel, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Mona Combs, of Arnett, WV.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 12, 2019 from 1:30pm to 4:30pm at Tamarack in Beckley, WV. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Vicky's name be made to Bowers Hospice House 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV 25801; or a local hospice.
